Many
consider Sean Penn's role as the gay activist Harvey Milk to be a
ground breaking role by an A List actor in the history of films, but
actually the film taboo was broken way back in 1993 by non other than
two'macho men' Tom Hanks and Antonio Banderas as gay lovers in
"Philadelphia". Now yet another popular Hollywood actor
known for his overt masculinity as Jason Borne, Matt Damon, takes on
the identity of the gay lover of the most popular pianist of the 1950s
in America, "Liberace". For those of you too young to remember or living
outside the USA, or are ready for a little nostalgia:
Director
Steven Soderbergh will bring the "Liberace" bio film to the
screen next year with Michael Douglas playing the lead role as USA's
mega showman of the last millennium. The film will focus mainly on
Liberace's palimony court case that forced him to admit that he
was gay during a time that stunned many Americans, especially women who
considered him an icon on par with the likes of Elvis Presley. in fact,
Liberace even told Elvis how to dress extravagantly to help boost his
image. And it worked! Liberace's act was often described as ultra
flamboyancy. His live performance started by being driven on stage
to his piano in a Rolls Royce and it got even better from there!
