Rome, Italy: This
Film Festival seems to get better with each year. This is evident by
the fact
that Gina Lolobrigida, Italy’s second most famous film diva,
will
be recognized for her career achievements and presented the coveted
Marcus
Aurelius Award. Al Pacino will also be on hand to accept the same award
on behalf of the Actors Studio. And last but certainly not least,
Monica Bellucci is scheduled to become the official program hostess for
the
second consecutive year. She will also be starring in the opening
night’s film,
the world premiere of Maria Sole Tognazzi's "The Man
Who Loves". The film will share the evening with "Eight", which
includes separate short films from noted
directors including Jane Campion, Gus Van Sant, Gael Garcia Bernal and
Wim Wenders.
Each segment will focus on a threat to the planet from the director's
point of
view. It will be the first time the eight segments will screen
together. This
year the priority will be Italian Films as indicated by the
selection of "The Man Who Loves" which will be the first time in the
festival's three-year history
that an Italian film has been chosen to open the event. Also of
interest will
be “The Baader-Meinhof Gang” which will also be
among the premiere films during
the Fest. The entire event will again be principally housed in
architect Renzo
Piano’s world famous Auditorium complex in the heart of the
Eternal City.

SPIKE LEE
DECIDES: WESLEY SNIPES WILL PORTRAY JAMES BROWN IN NEW BIO-FILM!

Wesley Snipes
|
Dateline New York City: according to the new bio-film’s
director, there is only one man who can portray James Brown and that is Wesley
Snipes. Wesley was supposed to be working for Spike Lee in his last movie, “The
Miracle at Santa Anna”, but Wesley was restricted by the U.S. Government from
traveling overseas due to his indictment on tax fraud charges by the U.S.
Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Wesley became a worldwide sensation with his
“Blade” film trilogy. His troubles culminated with the IRS when he was convicted
on three misdemeanor charges of failure to file income tax returns and last
April was sentenced to three years in prison. Last May his trial court allowed
Wesley to remain free while his appeal is being considered. So he is now free
to go back to work for Spike.

Dateline
London, England:
our sources indicate that Steven Soderbergh has developed a biopic of
flamboyant pianist and mega star Liberace, with Michael Douglas ready
to play
the lead role. The film will be based on the court case brought against
Liberace in 1982 by Scott Thorsen, who claimed $113m in palimony saying
that he
had been the pianist's companion for five years. Even though Liberace
always
denied being gay, he settled out of court for $95,000 in 1986, before
his death
in 1987 from AIDS at the age of 67.
Michael has been directed by Steven before, in “Traffic”.
And another “A” list actor is set to be Liberace’s
companion:
Matt Damon. Steven
has just completed shooting “The
Informant” with Matt, and is next planning “The Girlfriend
Experience”, a low-budget film to be simultaneously
released on cable, DVD and in cinemas like his previous project
“Bubble”. Then it will be time to put
the candelabra on the piano.
